Overview
Humm is a free, offline affirmations app. We do not operate servers, collect data, or track users. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. Your affirmations, collections, and settings live on your device and travel nowhere unless you choose to back them up to your own cloud.
Data we collect
None. Humm does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no advertising. In our public releases there is no analytics and no telemetry of any kind.
Pre-release beta builds distributed to testers may log app crashes and notification-reliability events so we can fix bugs before launch. This is never present in the App Store or Google Play release you download, and it is never used to identify you.
How Humm works
Everything happens on your device. Affirmations, your custom additions, collections, reminders, and streaks are stored locally in an on-device database. Humm has no backend, so there is nowhere for your content to be sent.
Cloud backup
Backup is optional and entirely under your control. When you ask Humm to back up, it writes a single export file containing your favorites, collections, custom affirmations, reminders, streaks, and settings, and saves it to your own iCloud Drive (on Apple devices) or Google Drive (on Android). The file lives in your cloud account, not ours — we never see it.
You can protect the backup with a passphrase. When you do, the file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a key derived from your passphrase via PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (or Argon2id where available). Your passphrase is never stored; if it is lost, the file cannot be decrypted. An encrypted backup made on Android restores on Apple devices and vice versa.
Permissions
Humm requests only the permissions it needs, all processed locally:
- Notifications — to deliver the daily reminders you schedule.
- Photos — only if you choose to set one of your own photos as an affirmation background.
Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Third-party services
Humm integrates no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in its public releases. Text-to-speech uses your operating system's built-in voices, on device.
Data storage
Your data is stored locally on your device. Standard operating-system backups (iCloud or Finder on Apple, Google Play Backup on Android) may include Humm's database if you have those enabled; custom-photo image data is excluded to keep backups small. Uninstalling the app removes its on-device data.
Children's privacy
Humm does not knowingly collect information from children. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it requires none from younger users either.
